Moving

Seeing as they've decided to destroy my blog, and make it nigh impossible to navigate round 20six, find mates again, add a picture, and edit my profile so that it looks barely passable... I'm going to move - be it temporarily or for good - to here:

mickey2

Please do come and find me. I don't want this ludicrous new platform (which seems to place html code above basic usability) to break the community of blogs we've got going here.

Splutter.

Woah there! I'm well angry!

Just been to see the Rumbly Bumbly Strips and, although twas yet another cracking gig by the lads with the entertaining Datarock in support, I'm furious! Why yes, I'd like to strangle every single muthaf**ker who smokes at gigs (excuse language, but I'm lying in bed, my throat feeling like someone's been at it with a cheese grater). And let's extend that to just anyone who smokes. You're all selfish gits. Is there a worse insult to pay a band than to smoke at their gig, thereby poisoning the musicians, their fans and anyone who's just popped in for a swift shandy?

I feel rough. The trombonist and saxophonist must be wishing they hadn't bothered tonight. Go and kill yourself in your own space you bunch of immature imbeciles. Your nicotine addiction shows you to be weak, and you need help. You're taking everyone down with you, and in a few years time you'll be draining the NHS dry as you lie on a hospital bed, gasping for breath. Good luck with that.

That rant over, I'm adoring these two myspace finds:

Kate Walsh has a stunning voice, like Gemma Hayes, and Loney, Dear is a purveyor of the finest Scandinavian folk since King of Convenience.

I'm off to try and get some fresh air.

News felch.

So my dad was down for the weekend, and he couldn't have timed it any better in terms of supporting me through a stressful Saturday of flat viewings. Catherine was great too, and together we saw seven flats in a day, all around the Crystal Palace area. In the end, once I'd got over my prejudice of wanting only a period property and not a modern flat in a block, we saw a couple of gorgeous places, and after deliberation I picked one and put in an offer. It was accepted, so we're good to go! Now for all those phone calls... Spent yesterday speaking to the estate agent, my mortgage adviser and getting solicitors' quotes. Joy!

Having my dad here also encourages me to get out of the house. We all went to Greenwich with my cousin Andy on Saturday evening for top notch Mexican grub, and then on Sunday we went to see a Crispin Hughes exhibition at the Museum in Docklands. I love that museum - so much to look at and hardly anyone knows where it is.

Also a good weekend of film watching: we tried to see The Da Vinci Code but failed, so saw crude but occasionally brilliant comedy Waiting instead; finally saw Batman Begins on DVD, and loved the contrast with its garish, cartoony predecessors - far more sophisticated; and we were pretty gripped by Phone Booth, even if it was over-the-top. Has anyone seen Brick? Really want to see that!

Hot tip alert! Do do do do check out Director. They ended my five-week gig avoidance last Thursday, and boy was I glad I bothered. Saw them in the Water Rats, and they gave me that same buzz as when I saw Editors in there. There are musical similarities between the two, but Director aren't as formulaic. Interviewed and saw Midlake last night too. Their new album is superb, but Catherine and I despise the trek to Kilburn when Bella Union do their nights there. It takes so long to get home that we had to scarper before the end of the gig. Anyways...

Howdy.

Catherine's birthday celebrations; a stunning, exhausting FA Cup final; the last ever episode of Shipwrecked; a gorgeous meal in St Katherine's Docks, where the service was rubbish; a flat-viewing that fell through; rock sound CDs pinched in the post; melted butter dripping on my new jacket; the arrival of Fionn Regan's debut album on my doormat.

It's been a weekend of ups and downs! Pretty shattered. But hey, at least Liverpool and The Sharks won!!

Have you got the bottle to do this quiz?
