Night out

Last night (Saturday) I met up with some friends from college and we went for a meal in Basildon.  We have been to this restaurant before and I don’t particularly like it but it was ok.  The only problem was it was so noisy you couldn’t have a conversation, which was a shame because that’s what we had all gone for to catch up with what everyone has been doing over the last few months.

When I went home I had to cross a road to go back to my car and it was terrifying, a car with 3 or 4 men in kept driving past and shouting something at me.  After doing this a few times it stopped a few yards from me but fortunately there were lots of police around and there had been an incident on the other side of the road and the police were running down the road.  So the car on my side of the road roared off.  When I got to my car I locked the doors and started driving home……..it was like being on a race course.  People were trying to overtake, or trying to race me, I wasn’t having any of it just wanted to get home.  But one car was so eager to overtake it nearly forced me off the road and when the car finally passed me it was a girl!!! She was so aggressive.

I was glad to get home in one piece.

First week

My first full week at University is over.  2 weeks down 154 weeks to go . We still have not met out tutor yet, I don’t think we will be meeting her until next week.

On Tuesday we had lectures on taking care of the back and then in the afternoon various lectures introducing the modules that we will be doing in the first semester.  I can’t wait to get stuck into the course properly .

In the morning lecture they made a big fuss about being punctual for lectures and that once the lectures started you would not be allowed in if you were late and even placed a notice outside for those arriving late.  They then let everyone in who was late……..!!  How can you be late for your first lecture?

I had to laugh on Tuesday, because there are so many of us, the lecture was held in 3 rooms with a video link.  Me friend and I sat in one of the rooms with the video link.  The first lecture was fine, the lectures was outlining rules and regulations, what was expected of us etc and then made us all jump when he shouted at someone asleep in the first row.

The next 2 lectures we just did not hear at all.  The video link broke down and the room just erupted in chaos .  People were fetching coffees eating their sandwiched, listening to their Ipod’s.   Hope we didn’t miss anything to interesting!!  I think that the university is going to have to rethink its delivery of the lectures.

At last

At last university has started.  Its seems such along time ago that I first made the decision to try.  So on Thursday about 360 of us all met at a church near the university.  We were welcomed and put into our groups.  The name of my group is Hyssop.  There are 15 in my group, all females and yes………I am the oldest in the group   . But they are a nice group which is good because we will be spending the next 3 years together.

On Friday we had to go in to register and be shown around the library, meet student support services and be measured for our uniforms.  They should be ready in 4 weeks and then we have our first placements 2 weeks after that.

Teignmouth

Have just spent a few days down in Teignmouth.  We stayed at a lovely B& B near the harbour.

Don’t know what it is about Devon but I do love it.  Mind you, Teignmouth has changed a lot, I’m not sure if it is a place I would like to live.  We did all the usual things, cream teas, a pier, day on the moor…..more cream teas.  You can’t go to Widdecombe and not have a cream tea.

Here are a few photos,

We also went to see our friends Roger and Kathy and met Batman and Robin there

Also had this done in Teignmouth

Busy, busy, busy

Have had a very busy few weeks………went up North to spend a few days with Mum and Dad, then Mum came back down with me.  A friend of ours has a caravan and she stayed there for a few days.  It was great to spend some time with Mum and Dad but it’s always a shock to see how old they are getting.  Hopefully they may be coming down in few weeks but will have to wait and see.

Mum had left on the Sunday……and she managed to get lost…….with a Satnav!!  We got a call from her saying she didn’t know where she was.  We eventually that she was beside an RAF base on the A1 and so going the right way but she kept managed to go in circles for an hour and a half.  Took her over 7 hours to get home.

Dambusters

We went to see the Dambusters last night.  It was another film in the Summer of British Film season.  It always amazes me how many people to these things the cinema was packed.  There was a lot of young people there too.

The film was great except for the first 5 mins when they played the theme to Jurassic Park, instead of the Dambusters music, I thought there was going to be a riot…lol  So they had to stop the film and start again.
