So long, maybe

I'm off to wordpress then I guess. But these old pages might well stay here and I will check them every so often and might get around to archiving them. I am a definite hoarder.

I'm sure that a header link is a good idea but for the time being

http://thisisalloneword.wordpress.com

http://lostroadmap.wordpress.com

both those seem to see some sort of action and continue on from the not-very-lineal approach to writing up what does and doesn't happen

say hullo if you ever ever around!

If you read/watch news then you need to read this

I don't read many non-fiction books except for the odd biography or maths book (ok I like maths) but I'm nearing the end of one I got for my birthday that has changed my life in a few small ways.

I can no longer watch the news on tv or read a newspaper or news website without a uncomfortable cynicism that renders most stories as laughable non-news lazy hack jobs.

This is because of Flat Earth News. A brilliant expose of how the news works (or doesn't). Its scary, a bit soul destroying and utterly compelling and I would reccomend (and do) this book to everyone.

The website is here; http://www.flatearthnews.net

Its not a big conspiracy story, its written by an insider who's worked at many papers, its an explanation of the sorry state of our proper newspapers (mainly UK but USA titles too). Go read!

Bowlers and so on

I do so enjoy having an hour’s lunch break, a luxury, I know. Especially with the addition of fifteen or so minutes extra which will hardly be missed during recess.
This gives me ample time to walk off some of the slightly subsidised lunches I consume and adventure through the streets of Lambeth, Pimlico, Westminster and Victoria.
Today is the second time in a week I have seen a gentleman attired in smart suit complete with bowler. Such a hat has been absent for years, decades even, from the city and it is a pleasure to see its return. Is this the start of a trend? Well, I will hedge my bets until such a time I see a third hat on a third gentleman.
Another pleasure was perusing through a box of old and tattered LPs accompanied by the wise aroma of pipe smoke from a fellow bargain seeker. I never took to my pipe but I am still young enough to dream that such a noble future awaits.
Other common flights of fancy which haunt my thoughts on an afternoons stroll involve buying a small mews house, or even decent sized flat around SW1. Pure fantasy of course as I can not afford the deposit on a small garage, neither do I play the lottery, and so it is unlikely that I will find myself living it such an esteemed neighbourhood.
My meander led me further a field than usual, to Eccleston Square and passed a small hotel whose advertising board promised; ‘hot and cold running water, English breakfast and colour television’. Despite the credit crunch, standards are improving.

Summer wear

Man its hot today - really sticky humid London weather. Like riding the Victoria Line all day without leaving yr flat.

What to wear then?

Well, my flatmate is back from his Madagascar trip laden with lamba which are like sarrongs and I for one am sold. Blokes can't really wear skirts but can get away with these wraparound linen beauties - well, in their own homes, not yet ventured outside wearing one. They are ace.

Picture may follow...

I love blimp

I saw a blimp over London at lunchtime today. It was bloody massive and moved much faster than I though it would. Blimps also seem very magical. I like them.

This particular blimp was advertising the well known expensive Belgium lager ‘Little Mo’ but it was probably carrying rich tourists and businessmen over the city too.

More blimps please! Less adverts more weird and wonderful designs would be nice though…

A normal weekend then…

Friday: Discover I will soon be a published author of some sort. Purchase Mexican wrestling mask. Resist temptation to wear it. Drink lots of wine. Play happy-song sweepstake with i-pod on random. Drink wine. Give into temptation and wear Mexican wrestling mask. Consider becoming vigilante. Remember I live in London. Consider, and agree to, not becoming vigilante.

Saturday: Wake up. Go to Bethnal Green and Drink lots. Drink cans in park. Watch Lethal Bizzle, Human League, Groove Armada and Manu Chau. Drink lots of cider. Dance with random lovely girl and promise I will phone her.

Sunday: Wake up very early. Drink 2 pints of water. Sleep. Wake up. Drink 1 pint of water and assess my fragile state. Bath. Drink 2 pints of water and cook pasts. . Go to Bethnal Green and Drink a bit. Drink cans in park. Watch Roni Size & Represent, Howling Belles, some indie shmindie band, Goldfrapp and Flaming Lips. Be introduced to Mohitos. Drink Mojitos. Drink more Mojitos. Drink lots of cider. Meet lovely girls and dance and sing and later wander the streets of Soho with said girls. Drink coffee in Bar Italia. Night bus & taxi home.

Hey! Cheers Katya & simplelsie – much love out to you both!

K – I’ve been rubbish at posting stuff and reduced to journaling at last.fm of late – maybe I should wordpress instead… can you archive and store old 20six posts or move them? Practicality vs. Laziness argument here…

Anyone still read these

I have a sneaking suspicion that the only thing that counts towards the page hits are little automatic webpage trawling computer thingies and not real people at all.

If you read this leave a comment to ease my paranoia!

Anyway I am suffering from some sort of ailment which makes me struggle moving about like a cat whose whiskers have been cut off. I keep bumping into things to either side of me. Maybe the walls really are closing in. Maybe I am getting very wide. Hmmm...

Cooking for 1 takes a bit of getting used to. Portions need reducing more than seems sensible. Still lamb & roast potatoes tonight was ace.
